New Identity Verification Rules for Company Directors & PSCs from November 2025

From 18 November 2025, all company directors and People with Significant Control (PSCs) in UK-registered companies will need to verify their identity. This new legal requirement comes from the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, aiming to reduce fraud and improve transparency across UK businesses.

Who needs to verify?
All directors and PSCs registered with Companies House.

What Does This Mean for You?

You will need to confirm who you are before filing certain official documents with Companies House. This is a one-time verification but will be required for every company role you hold (director or PSC).

How to prepare:

    • Prepare in advance: Have a valid photo ID ready (passport or driving license).
    • Keep your details up to date: Make sure your personal info at Companies House (e.g., date of birth, home address) matches your ID documents. Any mismatches could delay your verification.
    • Verify your identity using the official Companies House service or an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) – we’re here to help with a reliable and straightforward verification service, so you can relax knowing it’s all taken care of.
    • From 13 October 2025, signing in will require GOV.UK One Login when accessing Companies House WebFiling services. This change will ensure secure and streamlined access to your company’s records and filings.
    • When asked for your address during verification, make sure to use your home address — not your company or business address.
    • You’ll receive a personal code once verified.

Using your personal code:

  • Directors must include this code in their company’s next confirmation statement filed after 18 November 2025.
  • PSCs use a separate service to provide their code within specific deadlines.
  • If you’re both a director and a PSC, verify once but submit codes separately for each role.

Deadlines to remember:

  • You won’t be able to file confirmation statements without including your personal code(s) after the new rules start.
  • PSCs must submit their code within 14 days of the company’s confirmation statement date.

Keep your code safe:
Share your personal code only with people you trust, like your accountant or agent (ACSP). Companies House will never ask for it by phone.

Other roles:
The identity verification process for limited partnerships and additional roles will follow in due course.
